Membership is the lifeblood of any association. Attracting and retaining members can be a very challenging task. A membership drive is a useful way to help expand your association and promote what you have to offer. It is very important to use your time and energy in developing methods for recruiting that will be effective in the long term. Here are some guidelines to follow to help ensure that your membership drive is a success.
- Have a solid plan for your event. Educate the recruiters on how to approach and connect with potential members. Offer a special discount to staff who do a good job with membership recruitment.
- Communicate the association’s goals to everyone. Have your goal on all marketing materials.
- Have a membership table set up. Offer cash, check or charge options for payment and a quick and easy sign up sheet.
- Have an incentive for joining. Make sure to give perks to members that join, especially if they have to pay to become a member.
- Offer a bonus item for signing up at the event. Hand out a free shopping bag, a bouquet of flowers, or a coffee mug with your association’s name on it to the guests that sign up to become a member on site.
- Follow up. After the membership drive is all done, follow up with guests. Remind and inspire them on why they want to become a member.
